6th June 1962 – The Beatles Audition with George Martin

On this day in 1962, The Beatles rolled up at EMI STUDIOS in Abbey Road, London, to do their audition with George Martin.

It didn’t all go well, plus there were conversations which led to misunderstandings, which led to The Beatles getting rid of drummer Pete Best.

What really happened that day?

Find out in my latest video.

  1. It’s odd that, after having said he didn’t care what they did on stage, George Martin actually brought up with them the idea of replacing the drummer. They knew it was a make-or-break situation and would have assumed that Martin wanted Pete replaced. I wonder how Martin phrased it. Could he have meant to merely broach with them the idea of a session drummer? I wonder how explicit he was in his comments during that conversation.

    1. Personally, I think that is a bit of revisionism from Paul and I doubt George Martin said that. I will be showing an interview with George Martin where he reminds us exactly what was said.

Paul is good at reshaping the past a little bit!!

George never suggested replacing Pete and he has said that many times too.
